The Safety Director is responsible for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, and operation of the organization’s safety management system (SMS) as well as continuous improvement, coordination, and execution on behalf of Safety. The Safety Manager reports directly to the Snr VP, of Operations and has a dotted line reporting to the Corporate Safety Director (who reports directly to the CEO).

• Safety advocate - Demonstrates excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and promotes hazard reporting, and ensures effective safety reporting.

• Leader - Model and promote an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership.

• Communication - Act as an information conduit to bring safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the organization’s staff, contractors, and stakeholders. Provides and articulates information regarding safety issues within the organization in English and Spanish.

• Developer - Assist in the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organization’s SMS.

• Assist in the maintenance of the training system and development of safety training modules. Assist in the continuous improvement of the SMS

• Relationship builder - Build and maintain an excellent working relationship with the organization’s Safety Action Group (SAG) and within the safety services office (SSO).

• Ambassador – Represent and promote the organization on government, international organization, and industry committees (e.g., ICAO, IATA, CAA, AIB, etc.) as well as with Airlines’ safety departments.

• Analyst - Analyze technical data for trends related to hazards, events, and occurrences. Identify appropriate data sources and make recommendations in response to current safety concerns.

• Process management - Effectively utilizes applicable processes and procedures to fulfill roles and responsibilities. Investigates opportunities to increase the efficiency of processes. Measures the effectiveness and seeks to continually improve the quality of processes.
